- Becker has prepared a gift for all flower growers for the upcoming 2021. Meet the new «space» petunias — «Andromeda», «Cassiopeia», «Starry Sky». These are breeding hybrids that can be grown from seeds. They bloom magnificently, brightly, beautifully and most importantly — extraordinary! Compact bushes are literally strewn with colorful flowers, like a map of the starry sky on a clear summer night. Just fantastic!
We hope these beauties will become garden favorites and will remain your favorites for many years to come. Plant on the site, loggia, balcony, terrace. Place in flowerpots and hanging planters. Grow all year round at home on the windowsill.
A short excursion into botany
As you know, petunia is a vegetative plant. Propagated by cuttings, does not produce seeds (sterility gene). Even if such a miracle happens (the seeds ripen and germinate), in our completely non-subtropical climate, the sprouts will quickly wither away. But tell me honestly, have you ever managed to wait for the maturation of a seed box from a petunia ?!
We offer a unique opportunity to grow petunias from seeds easily and simply. It is inexpensive, not troublesome, very exciting and takes much less time than vegetative division.
Meet our novelties — three «star» beauties:
Petunia Dot Star Andromeda F1
A multi-flowered compact variety with a bush height of 25-30 cm. It branches well, willingly lays buds. The flowers are inky purple in color, chaotically covered with pearly white drops. The dark core creates a three-dimensional effect, as if reflecting the depth of the night sky.
Petunia Dot Star Cassiopeia F1
The height of the bush is 30-35 cm. The flowers have a bright crimson color. Variations in fuchsia and lilac-violet shades are possible. The outlines of pearl inclusions vary. It seems that the artist abruptly threw a portion of white paint onto the canvas.
Petunia Dot Star Starry Sky F1
A multi-flowered variety with a bush height of up to 35 cm. The variety is known as «Starry Night». The petals are bright purple. White patterns never repeat, varying in shape and size. There are small splashes. There are large broad strokes resembling butterfly wings. Some specimens have monophonic petals, lined from the core with dark longitudinal shading. like the rays of the stars.
And now we will tell you why they are good and how they differ from ordinary petunias:
- Large flowers: the diameter of the five-petal bowl reaches 7 cm.
- Bright colors and abundant blooms.
- An eye-catching contrasting color combination.
- The petals are studded with pearly white sprays that shine like a scattering of stars.
- Increased durability and weather resistance.
- Immune to the scorching sun, drought and temperature extremes.
- Flowers quickly restore their shape after heavy rain and wind.
- Now your favorite «gramophones» can be grown all year round on the windowsill.
How to sow petunia seeds
You can sow seedlings from the end of February. A fertile clay-sand substrate with a neutral or slightly acidic reaction is ideal. Do not take the soil from the garden — bacteria, fungi and other pathogens live there.
The easiest way is to take peat tablets and place 1-3 seeds in each with tweezers. This is convenient, because after germination, the seedling can be transferred to a pot of soil without injuring the root ball. For lack of it, you can sow in a food-grade plastic container. The seeds are small — no need to close up, just cover with a film. After the appearance of 2-3 true leaves, you will have to make a pick. Therefore, lay the seeds at the maximum distance from each other — so that the sprouts are easier to extract without damaging the roots.
Crops should be kept under a film at a temperature of 18-22 °, moistening from a spray gun (so as not to wash out the crops and not to crush tender sprouts). After the formation of one true leaf, remove the film and, using a fitolamp, extend the daylight hours to seedlings up to 12 hours.
After picking, hardening is desirable before planting in open ground. To do this, T content is reduced to 14-16°. You can plant on the site after a confident warming up of the soil. The optimal landing rhythm is 15-20 cm.
How to achieve lush flowering
It must be remembered that petunias are extremely voracious. They quickly “eat up” all the nutrients from the soil and require a new portion of food. Petunias don’t flower without food! It is best to make a specialized mineral complex every 2 weeks. But if there is not enough time, you can use a lifesaver. These are dry solid fertilizers of prolonged action (available in our catalog). Action lasts for at least three months.
Nothing complicated. For your care, petunias will thank you with bright colors and continuous abundant flowering. We wish you good luck in growing heavenly beauties.
