Greenhouse treatment in spring without changing the soil

Plants sown or planted in the form of seedlings in open ground are at risk of returning frosts for some time. If you wait for the time when there will be no night cooling, you can significantly postpone the timing of the harvest. Therefore, when there is such an opportunity, summer residents on the site equip a greenhouse or greenhouse — protection for plants in case of natural surprises. But such a building needs maintenance. How and with what to process the greenhouse in the spring?

Why spring processing of the greenhouse is necessary

An early crop in greenhouses ripens in an atmosphere of changed weather and climate conditions. Relatively high air temperature and high humidity like plants, but not only them. In such an environment, pathogenic bacteria, fungal and mold spores, pathogens of various diseases multiply faster.

If the plants in the greenhouse were sick or attacked by pests last season, there is a high probability that there may be spores, bacteria, eggs or larvae on the surfaces of the structure, in the soil and even on the gardener’s working tools. Before sowing or planting new plants, all possible measures must be taken to destroy sources of danger. Disinfection is also used as a preventive measure.

Preparation for processing

The preparatory work is not much different from the usual cleaning of the premises after a long absence of a person in it.

  • The greenhouse should be freed as much as possible from objects temporarily stored in it in order to gain full access to the structures of this structure. In wooden structures, areas affected by the fungus are replaced, after which the tree is treated with slaked lime. Rust is removed from the metal and painted.

  • If the remains of plants and disposable material for the garter were not disposed of in the fall, you need to do it in the spring. Nothing can be burned, which means that you will have to resort to other methods of removing garbage from the site.

  • We remove dirt and dust. Dust that has settled on the walls of the structure worsens the lighting of the greenhouse. Wash off dust and dirt with a disinfectant solution.

And only when the greenhouse is cleaned of foreign objects, dirt, dust and repaired, you can start processing it.

How to wash a greenhouse in spring

To effectively wash the greenhouse, you can use any of these solutions:

  • Laundry soap. Such a solution will not harm plants. A piece of soap grated on a coarse grater is dissolved in warm water. The foam is applied to the surface with a soft sponge, washed off with water.

  • Special preparations. You can find them in gardening stores. The solution is mixed according to the instructions. After applying it, I really want to rinse the surfaces with a jet from a hose, but you can’t do this, because you can infect the soil. It is better to wipe everything with a rag several times.

  • Mustard. A damp sponge is dipped in mustard powder, which is then applied to the surface. After processing with mustard, it can be washed off with water — it will not harm future plants.

  • Ammonia. For 10 liters of water you need only 1 tbsp. a spoonful of ammonia. The surfaces treated with the solution do not need to be wiped, it will be better if they dry on their own: leave the doors and windows of the room open.

All of these solutions are easy to manufacture and quite effective.

How to disinfect a polycarbonate greenhouse

Flushing is not disinfection. Disinfectants can be divided into:

  • biological: harmless, but slower acting.

  • chemical: more effective, but can harm the microflora.

Popular chemicals include:

  • Bleaching powder. With a mixture of 400 g of bleach and 10 liters of water, settled for 4 hours, the walls of the structure are treated through a spray bottle. Then the room is sealed as tightly as possible for 2 days. After ventilation, the greenhouse can be used.

  • Copper vitriol. 50 g of vitriol is diluted with warm water, and then, poured into a bucket (10 liters) of water, left to infuse for 1 hour. Processing the room with this tool helps keep it clean for 2 weeks.

  • White. Greenhouse treatment with whiteness is quite popular due to the availability of this drug. One liter of 20% whiteness is dissolved in 10 liters of water. The exposure time after processing is only 2 hours.

The list of these compounds can be supplemented by formalin and other drugs, which should be used in accordance with the instructions.

Biological solutions that are used more often than others:

  • Needles. Pine branches are poured with boiling water and boiled for 20 minutes. Decoction can be used to process walls and spill the soil.

  • Garlic. Use an infusion of garlic from 40 g of crushed raw materials, poured into 10 liters of water and settled for a day.

  • Nettle. Half a bucket of dry nettles is poured with boiling water and allowed to brew. The cooled infusion is filtered and used for its intended purpose.

Sulfur checker helps well against mold, fungi and insects. Disinfection with a sulfur checker should be carried out strictly following the instructions and precautions. This method is not very popular due to the fact that sulfur is poisonous and the greenhouse cannot be used for a long time after such treatment.

 How to cultivate the land in a greenhouse in spring

In the spring, you can completely change the soil in the greenhouse, replacing it with a new nutrient mixture. But more often, the greenhouse is processed in the spring without replacing the soil. When choosing how to disinfect the soil in a greenhouse, they usually pay attention to the most popular and inexpensive drugs.

  • Potassium permanganate (potassium permanganate). Treatment of the greenhouse with potassium permanganate helps to get rid of eggs, pupae of various insects, as well as mites and, at the same time, is a potassium-manganese fertilizer. The solution is prepared from 5 g (0.5 tsp) of potassium permanganate in a bucket of heated water. The soil is shed 1-2 weeks before sowing or planting seedlings and covered with a film. Repeat the treatment 3-5 days before the start of sowing or planting.

  • Fitosporin-M. Greenhouse treatment with phytosporin does not harm beneficial microorganisms, destroying pathogens. The drug is effective against gray rot, late blight, powdery mildew and other diseases. One hundred grams of Fitosporin-M paste is diluted in 200 ml of water. For 1 bucket of water add 1 tbsp. a spoonful of solution. Phytosporin spills the soil and sprays the walls of the greenhouse. The earth is covered with a film and wait 3-5 days.

A greenhouse prepared for the new season can be filled with seedlings or new crops.
